Pre-Care Before your appointment

  1. DRINK WATER lots of water before and on the day of your appointment. It is very important to come to your appointment fully hydrated. Hydrated follicles will ensure a more effective treatment because electrolysis works by using the water content in the follicle. Dehydrated follicles are much more difficult to treat.

  2. PAIN RELIEVERS Taking a pain reliever (Aspirin, Naproxen, Ibuprofen, Advil) thirty minutes before your appointment will make your treatment more comfortable.

  3. NUMBING CREAMS or topical anesthetic cream such as 5% lidocaine, BLT (benzocaine, lidocaine and tetracaine) cream, or EMLA (lidocaine and prilocaine) may also be applied to the area at least one hour prior to your appointment. Anesthetic creams can be found over the counter or by prescription from your healthcare provider. Please ask me about them prior to or during your consultation.

  4. TRIM HAIR Please trim (not shave) the area to be treated the day of your appointment. This can easily be done with a pair of clippers.  Allowing enough hair growth for the tweezers to grab allows for easier access to the hair follicle, more precise insertions resulting in a more effective treatment.

  5. AVOID Stimulants such as coffee tea and any caffeinated drinks on the day of your appointment.  This could make you more sensitive to pain.

  6. AVOID making appointments during your menstrual cycle, female clients have reported more sensitivity and thus more pain!

  7. AVOID  sun exposure 48 hours prior to your treatment. Your skin should be hydrated and not inflamed.

  8. AVOID Retinoids Do not use Retin A, or any topical retinoid for at least 1 week prior to your electrolysis treatment. Accutane should be discontinued for at least 6 months prior to electrolysis. Having electrolysis services done while on retinoids could result in permanent pigment changes and scarring

  9. STOP using tweezers, wax, threading and any plucking methods once treatment has started. You can shave or trim the hair as needed inbetween appointments.
